Walking the path of Respect and Honor

This is an education and empowerment workshop for males of all ages that focuses on helping them take the important steps toward re-building their self esteem, regaining their personal pride, relearning the importance of respecting females and bringing honor and pride back to the community. Today’s music and videos are seriously affecting the way many of our young men treat women of all ages, because of the negative influence of most of the Rap music they are listening to many of them are getting drawn into the destructive lifestyles portrayed in this music, this very interactive session involves all participants through open discussion regarding Rap music's influence on our youth. We take a look at the negative portrayal of females as viewed by the gangster and now pimp-style Rap mentality that endorses extreme violence, abuse, neglect, and disrespect for women, for self and for all human life. The workshop is presented in a non-shaming and non-blaming manner, throughout each interactive and experiential component participants learn to work together for the betterment of their community. Through this type of interactive teaching the participants are empowered to stand together to end the self-defeating and self-destructive behaviors taking place among each other.
All participants in this workshop learn the values of walking the path of the peaceful warrior, the peaceful warriors movement teaches that a warriors greatest weapon is the mind not the fists and violence, and that in order to use the mind in a good and healthy way it is important to develop a mind that is free from the ravages of alcohol and drugs. One of the biggest concerns we hear from youth is that they have so few role models to look up to today. By offering this workshop for males of all ages we can begin to bring a deeper understanding to all the males in the community and help them become the much needed positive role models within their community. By standing up as a role model for our community we become a true warrior, humble, brave, generous and respectful. This component has been designed to empower males toward taking on positive lifestyle roles in their communities, leading by example and understanding the importance of being healthy role models, it is designed to get them actively involved in taking an honest look at their own behaviors and how these behaviors are affecting their relationships and their community.
We also take an in depth look at the role alcohol and drugs are playing in the problems many communities are currently facing. This session gives everyone a complete understanding of the physiological and pharmacological effects of alcohol on the body and mind, how alcohol poisoning actually takes place, the detrimental effects of alcohol on the mind, body, spirit and social aspects of our life, the role alcohol plays in violence and abuse and disrespect. This component also provides an up to date look at all drugs being sold today and it also takes an honest look at the number of Native people that are incarcerated in prisons as a result of alcohol, drugs, and alcohol and drug related violence. All drugs and effects are discussed in a way that everyone can understand and relate to including exactly what poisons are in the drugs being sold in our communities today. Workshop participants gain a clear understanding about the way their own alcohol and drug use begins, through experimentation and peer pressure, trying to fit in and be accepted, how the drug dealers ultimately take control over our life and are instrumental in destroying our lives. This workshop also includes very powerful video presentations that help everyone gain a deeper understanding about what really happened to Native Society as a result of Colonization and the outlawing of our ceremonies. The video presentation has been very instrumental in getting people back on track and walking a healthier path in life.
